That is NSFW

B.A.: This is funny

That is NSFW reich b.a.

But I thought the original was when I first saw it as well:

In the Artist's Studio Adolf Reich

So what did Mr. Melcher add that wasn’t already here?

IM KÜNSTLERATELIER (IN THE ARTIST’S STUDIO), if anybody is interested

  1. All Melcher ever adds to the pictures in “This is Priceless” is the ficticious title and/or caption. In this case he’s given the lecher a name.

  2. The strip’s concept is, Melcher adds a new title and caption which changes the meaning of the painting to something the artist never intended (https://godaddyandthesquirrelmustbothdie.wordpress.com/2018/02/04/sunday-funnies-lol-february-4-2018/). In this case, Reich painted an artist trying to explain something to a friend while the friend is distracted by the nude model. And with Mecher’s caption, it’s… an artist trying to explain something to a friend while the friend is distracted by the nude model.

Sorry if I gave the impression that there was a difference between the two graphics: didn’t intend to go all Slylock Fox on y’all.

  3. Okay Bill, thanks for the clarification.

Of course, the name is not random, and the visitor in the painting does have some resemblance to Harvey Weinstein. But it’s not a close enough resemblance, nor a very timely occasion, to make it very pointed like an editorial cartoon of some sort.

I thought there was some intended humor in the original, or mild irony, in that the visitor is intrigued by glimpsing the live model, in her attempted modesty, when the same woman is more fully exposed in the canvas he is meant to be attending to.

  5. I’m not sure if I *EVER* would have found this painting funny instead of creepy, but in this day and age it makes me downright nauseous. I’ve had men give me that look at the grocery store when I was fully dressed – even in an outfit as far from titillating as jeans and a sweatshirt – and I wanted to run screaming out into traffic. It should also be noted that “Mr Weinstein” is a potential purchaser of the painting, which implies to me that he’d rather buy *her*, which makes it even grosser.
